Sea Change
SVA presents “sea change,” an exhibition of artwork by 11 graduating MA/MAT Art Education students, curated by Dr. Cathy Rosamond, chair of the MA/MAT Art Education program. The exhibition will be on view Friday, June 13, through Tuesday, July 1, at SVA Flatiron Gallery, 133/141 West 21st Street, New York City.
“Sea Change”. To resist and thrive in challenging times calls for a collective sea change that leans toward hope. The earliest use of the phrase “sea change” is found in a song by the island’s supernatural spirit in Shakespeare’s The Tempest. Sea change denotes a profound transformation, or metamorphosis, coupled with a significant shift in perspective. Whether it is happening to a person, group, or society at large, a sea change can never happen in isolation or in a vacuum. Radical and deep transformation only takes place through myriad connections and experiences as people gain new perspectives through empathy, learning, and engagement with their surroundings.
Artists featured in this exhibition are Devin Revolorio, Gabrielle Lewin, Grace Hallinan, Hannah Scherwatzky, Irem Epikmen, Meg O’Brien, NuoMin Wei, Suzanne Burns, Wujian Wang, Yomira Meregildo and Youjung Choi.
The SVA Flatiron Gallery is open Monday through Saturday, 10:00am–6:00pm.
Free and open to the public
